The benefits of weight monitoring

Maintaining optimal weight

Maintaining optimal weight

Weight monitoring is important to maintain a healthy weight. Being overweight or underweight can affect the functioning of the wheelchair and can lead to health problems such as pressure sores, respiratory problems, and cardiovascular diseases. Regular weight monitoring can help you maintain a healthy weight and reduce the risk of health problems.

Tracking changes in weight

Weight monitoring is also important to track changes in weight over time. Sudden weight loss or gain can indicate underlying health issues, such as infections or other medical conditions, and may require medical attention. Regular weight monitoring can help detect these changes early and facilitate timely interventions.

Managing nutrition

Weight monitoring can also help you manage your nutrition. It can help them track their calorie intake, identify nutritional deficiencies, and adjust their diet accordingly. Proper nutrition is important for maintaining a healthy weight, preventing health problems, and promoting overall well-being.

Current options aren't affordable or accessible

Most wheelchair scales weren't built to be used at home!

You may not think about this much, but the average cost of a scale for someone in a wheelchair to use is $1200 USD. While you can find some online for $500, the commercial units typically cost $1800 or more.

The current scale designed are a one-size fits all which means they can capture any wheelchair, manual and powered. However, this requirement circumvents the need of a particular segment who use manual chairs and can benefit from having a lightweight and more affordable scale designed for the home.

These all steel or aluminum scales weigh 60lbs or more making them quite difficult for someone in a wheelchair to manage or maneuver on their own.

We want to hear from you...

Take our 2 minute survey to share your thoughts. This will be used to research how weight management affects people who use wheelchairs.
